Advocacy
One Blood. One Family.

One of the main directives of TCBD is to support and encourage legislative advocacy for the bleeding disorders community. By actively meeting with and writing to our state and federal legislators, we can bring the important aspects that affect our community to the attention of our representatives. It takes the effort of each of us in our community to make our “voice” loud enough.
Austin Days
Texas Bleeding Disorders Advocacy Coalition
In 2012, the Texas Central Bleeding Disorders (serving North Texans), and the Lone Star Bleeding Disorders Foundation (serving South Texans) spearheaded an effort to bring together community leaders to establish a state-wide advocacy group: The Texas Bleeding Disorders Coalition.
These key stakeholders encompassed representation from both chapters, a Hemophilia Treatment Center representative and representatives from both NHF and HFA. In 2013, the Texas Bleeding Disorders Coalition was launched to connect advocates across the state to collectively work on issues throughout the year capitalizing on our strength in numbers and our passion to serve the bleeding disorders community.
We are united and dedicated to our centralized priorities: ensuring that all consumers have access to high quality medical care at Hemophilia Treatment Centers, access to all clotting medications and access to the ancillary services, support and education needed by our community.

Austin Advocacy Days offers an opportunity for Texans affected by inherited blood disorders to advocate for important issues at the state level. Since the Texas Legislature meets biannually (every two years on the odd year), this event is crucial for engaging with lawmakers about the needs of the bleeding disorders community. Austin Advocacy Days will focus on state policies that enhance care affordability and coverage for Texans.

On the state level, we advocate on issues surrounding insurance, Medicaid, and polices that can create barriers to access to care.
